Language Lizard is excited to announce its newest offering, Squirrel Monkey, a thoughtful tale about acceptance and the power of mindfulness.
Set in the tropical rainforest of Latin America, Squirrel Monkey is a wonderful story about acceptance and the power of mindfulness. Cori, the energetic and playful squirrel monkey, is sometimes overwhelmed by his “big feelings,” especially when the jungle’s noisy bustle is too much for the little monkey. While the other animals struggle to soothe Cori’s distress, his mother demonstrates the power of slow, meditative breathing to balance emotions and help Cori find a “calm and quiet” place in the busy jungle.
Squirrel Monkey is written by Elizabeth Álvarez Alfaro and illustrated by award-winning artist Jesús Gabán. Gabán, who has illustrated books in several languages and received international honors for his work, is also the illustrator of the popular book The Biscuit Moon. Squirrel Monkey comes with downloadable worksheets for parents and educators. In addition, the book is available in English and the following bilingual editions: Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Dari, French, Mandarin, Panjabi, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Urdu, with more languages coming soon. (See our Language Spotlight for more information about many of these languages!)
